aeropuertoFrom the moment the visitor arrives at the airport in Golfito, he/she begins the enjoyable experience of seeing the rainforest in all its splendor, because the airport is located in the middle of the Golfito Wildlife Refuge and one can immediately observe a incredible variety of flora and fauna.  SANSA (www.flysansa.com) and Nature Air (www.natureair.com) are the two companies who fly from the capital (San Jose) to Golfito every day.  The flight takes 50 minutes. One can also arrive by bus using the bus company TRACOPA or one can rent a car (www.solidcarrental.com). and come down the Inter-American Highway passing through some interesting places with beautiful scenery such as the “Cerro de la Muerte” (mountain of death – not named for its danger but for the cold temperatures it used to have), going through the Grand Terraba River, the largest river in the country with its 2,171 square kilometers on a trip that takes approximately 7 hours. Climate: In Costa Rica the vegetation is totally green almost year round.  On the coastal areas the climate is hot and humid.  The dry season runs from December through April.  During these months it rains little, and when it does it is usually in the afternoon.  The temperature is normally 79ºF to 100ºF. From May through November is the rainy season, and at times it can rain all day.  From September to November is when rain is more frequent, but the country does not get affected by hurricanes or tropical storms, which makes the country accessible year round. MONEY: The legal tender for Costa Rica is the ‘Colón’, but the dollar and euro are received in the majority of commercial establishments and banks.  DISTANCES:  The distance from San José, the capital of Costa Rica, to the city of Golfito is 342 kilometers.  From Golfito to Zancudo Beach is 75 kms, to Pavones beach is 100 km. and to Puerto Jiménez is 127 kms.
